Elderhostel now known as Road Scholar
Adventures in Lifelong Learning
Applied Arts & Crafts (the following is from an out of date Edlerhostel web page)
Have you always wanted to try your hand at making Shaker furniture or sculpting a piece of jewelry that is as unique as you are? The Elderhostel Applied Arts & Crafts programs are an excellent way to explore your creative side. Quilting, wood carving, photography, weaving, drawing, painting and pottery are just a few of the many Applied Arts & Crafts programs offered. Working with experienced artisans, participants hone existing talents or discover new ones. Use your own hands to create a piece of work that you may proudly display for years to come. Some courses combine related field trips. A sculpting class may visit a museum or a watercolor class may collect wild flowers to paint. Most programs can accommodate those with various levels of experience while others are geared specifically to beginning, intermediate, or advanced levels. Be sure to check the course description for details.

Carter Burden Center for the Aging
Carter Burden Center for the Aging promotes the well-being of elderly residents through a broad array of direct social services and volunteer programs oriented to individual, family and community needs. Aging Artists are encouraged to continue with their artistic endeavors and we are proud to contribute to the center.
The goal of the Making Art Work Program is to celebrate the art and vision of older adults, whether in senior centers or in arts programs, along with others who might be considered “Outsiders” such as seniors with developmental disabilities and “Insiders,” those who have difficulty leaving their homes, so that these older artists find ways of expression and communication through their creative efforts. Making Art Work is a special program of the Carter Burden Center for the Aging after merging with Elder Craftsmen.

The Bernard Osher Foundation | Osher Lifelong Learning Institutes
In the fall of 2000, the Foundation began to consider programs targeted toward more mature students, not necessarily well served by the standard continuing education curriculum. The Foundation was fortunate to have two immediate examples of lifelong learning programs from which to learn. One was the thirty-year-old Fromm Institute of Lifelong Learning at the University of San Francisco; the second was Senior College at the University of Southern Maine. At present, the Foundation supports 117 Osher Lifelong Learning Institutes on university and college campuses across the country, with at least one program in each of the 50 states.
